5 Ways to Save Money on a Maldives Vacation in 2023!

Maldives is one of the most beautiful countries on Earth.  It is a nation of islands! Everything in Maldives is import and far away on Islands.  Flights and Resorts are expensive, and the country has a 23% tax on pretty much everything.  In this article I will help you save money on a Maldives trip and provide some Maldives travel advice and guide! It is a once in a life time experience.

1. Dates Dates Dates

Maldives is a tropical country and has wet and dry seasons.  The wet seasons have a lot of rain, however the rains comes fast and goes fast! Do not let it scare you and not book during those times.  The wet season goes from April to December.  During these times there are some very good months very tourism gets really low and you will pay almost half! Avoid the summer breaks and rest of the months are good to go.  You will be surprise how much of a difference it makes.  If you insist on going during the dry seasons, avoid December and February.  February is one of the busiest and most expensive times to be in Maldives!

2. Book your Maldives Resorts and Flights Separately

There are a lot of packages you can book with resorts and flights included, however you miss out on the flexibility on the flights, resorts, meal plans and packages you can get.   The packages are convenient but if you book the flights and resorts separately you will not only save money but have a lot of options to pick from.

Few things to look out for:

  1. Booking the resort directly with resort
  2. Check out different airlines
  3. Check the meal plans that suite you and your family
  4. Speed boat vs Sea Plane
  5. Combination of dates for flights and resorts

3. Speed boat vs Sea Plane

Sea plans are an amazing experience to fly over the beautiful islands of Maldives in low altitudes and view the blue waters.   However they come at a price, sea plan flights generally start at $400 a person and could cost more the further away you are from Male.  The alternative is to book a Speed boat.  Sea boats are as fun and close to the water, they will cost $100-$200 max depending on how far your resort is.  You can save a lot of money  by taking the speed boats.  The only draw back is, if your resort is really far away then it can take up to 2 hours to get to the resort.

4. Book an All-inclusive Maldives Resort

Everything in Maldives is very expensive.  Everything needs to be imported to the islands. Any thing you get in Maldives has a hefty 23-25% tax.  All-inclusive resorts come with different meal plans which can include lunch and/or dinner.  Generally a meal cost around $50 so without an all-inclusive plan, your lunch and dinners will easily add up depending on the size of the family.  If you get a good deal on a resort with meal options, don’t miss out.

5. Make it a Multi-stop Vacation

This is my favorite out of all of them! Book your flight via Srilanka, Dubai or Qatar.  Book your flight with pit stops along the way.  These are incredible countries. You can pay a little extra and extend your trip and stop overs to these countries.  We decided to stop in Sri Lanka for a week, and what an amazing experience it was.

I hope you have trip of a life time! Maldive is easily one of our most favorite countries!
